IT Departments
I work for company XYZ. The IT department always seems to be a road block to anything that needs IT involvement. For instance, the other day a computer was picked up from our lab and taken to IT for diagnostics. I called IT later the next day and asked for a status update. They told me that it was going to be approximately 2 to 3 weeks, because the motherboard was bad. I politely asked them if they had a loaner that we could use in the lab. The person on the other side of the phone asked to put me on hold so they could check and see if there was a loaner. Five minutes later he comes back and says that they do not have any loaders. So, I asked if we could move one of our computers that isn’t being used in another department to the lab. I was told that I would need to contact the manager. So, I called the the manager and he gave me every excuse as why we couldn’t move one of the computers that wasn’t being used. Finally, I asked him, “So do you think it is acceptable that a person should not be able to do their work for 2 to 3 weeks, because you don’t want to allow us to move the computer?”. Eventually after going around for more than 10 minutes he “Allowed” me to move the computer. Have any of you had problems like this? What’s your take on this?
